报告地点:二号公教楼606

报告题目:Research overview on fs laser micromachining and fiber-optic sensors

报 告 人:Dr. George Y. Chen

报告内容:

Sensors are paving the way for smart cities of the future as well as highly efficient agriculture and forestry. The landscape of sensors is changing, and optical sensors are gradually replacing the traditional electrical sensor counterparts. Laser micromachining is an enabling technology that is used from marking smartphones to cutting-edge medical applications. Femtosecond laser pulses (Physics Nobel Prize in 2018) are making an impact and will continue to drive the frontiers of innovation for many years to come.

Dr. Chen graduated with a 4-year MEng (Bachelor’s and Master’s joint degree) from Imperial College London (QS World University Ranking joint #2 in 2015, #8 in 2018) in 2009, in the field of electronics and electrical engineering with computer science. He was awarded his PhD from the Optoelectronics Research Centre (one of the most prestigious in photonics) at the University of Southampton in 2014. He worked in an industrial research lab as a postdoctoral research fellow for SPI Lasers Ltd. (one of the largest high-power fiber-laser manufacturers) from 2013 to 2015. He has published 36 refereed journal papers (23 as first & corresponding author, 2 as corresponding author, 1 as first author, 7 invited), and has given 4 invited talks. He has published in high-impact journals such as ACS Nano (IF: 13.7), Materials Horizons (IF: 13.2), Journal of Materials Chemistry A (IF: 9.9), and Scientific Reports (IF: 4.1).He has been on the technical program committee for Optical Sensors, and the International Conference on Optical Fibre Sensors, which host the two of the largest conferences in his field. He has also been on the technical program committee for the World Congress of the International Measurement Confederation (IMEKO).
